Civic Education Program

Project Summary:

  • Duration: (02/04 – 11/04)

  • Funding Source: Tamkeen Project

This program is conduct through three separate projects in three different West Bank regions and they are:

  1. North West Bank

  2. Central West Bank

  3. South West Bank

Often PNA ministries contacted CFI to assist them in various activities. CFI was licensed by the Bethlehem office of the Ministry of Education to conduct activities with the area students in cooperation with the teachers and social counsellors with the aim of enhancing the student’s social participation and strengthening their abilities to learn.

Many organizations taking part in the CES (civic education session) program showed a greater level of community responsibility and often they took immediate actions on behalf of their communities. Others initiated whole new organizations to address single or a broad range of issues. Partner organizations also held meetings with local council members to better communicate with them their needs and concerns. Some even met with individual PLC members and others even met with government ministers.

In general, most of the CES participants show a difference in their skills, behavior and attitude towards civil society development. For example, participants gathered information about specific cases before meeting with decision makers. Others encouraged their spouses to organize events for women. Others developed new local responsibilities in dealing with public issues such as the role of the local council and coming up with follow up procedures for the resolution of local problems.
